Prostate cells carry beta type estrogen receptors, which appear to act as tumor suppressors, preventing the prostate cells from turning cancerous in the first place. Those are the receptors targeted by the phytoestrogens in soy, like genistein, which inhibit prostate cancer cell invasion and spread in a petri dish at the kinds of levels one might get consuming soy foods.
The prevention of metastases is critical, as death from prostate cancer isn’t caused by the original tumor, but its spread throughout the body, which explains recommendations for men with prostate cancer to consume soy foods as well. ... See MoreSee Less

90% of our DNA comes from that of the bacteria in our body, without which we would not be able to live. The microbial community (microbiome) throughout our digestive system contains much of these beneficial bacteria which in effect filter the food we eat. If you consider that food is a foreign object that we introduce to our body, we rely on our microbial community to break it down and process it.
If we eat a lot of meat, poultry, fish, milk, cheese, eggs, and refined grains we can foster the growth of bacteria in our microbial community that convert the choline and carnitine in these foods into TMA—trimethylamine, which can be oxidized into TMAO, and wreak havoc on our arteries, increasing our risk of heart attack, stroke, and death.
So what we eat will have a bearing on our microbiome, which in turn can influence our health and well-being. ... See MoreSee Less

Health - Why is the Science Being Ignored?
In the US health care costs during the period from 2007 to 2015 have been eating up a larger and larger share of income and continued to grow even when the overall economy was contracting.
Health care cost inflation rates were 6.5% in 2014 and 6.8% in 2015. By comparison, overall inflation was only 1.58% in 2014 and 0.09% in 2015. This would appear to be unsustainable.
Impressive evidence now exists to show that advanced heart disease, cancers of certain types, diabetes, and a few other degenerative diseases might be reversed by diet.
The evidence can no longer be ignored. Those in science or medicine who shut their minds to such an idea are being more than stubborn; they are being irresponsible.
We also now know that we can largely avoid some “genetic” diseases through nutrition, even though we may harbor one or more genes responsible for the disease.
It has been shown in experimental animals, and published in the top scientific journals, that cancer growth can be turned on and off by nutrition, despite very strong genetic predisposition. These same effects have been indicated over and over again in humans.
These realizations are explained in "The China Study" written by Dr. T. Colin Campbell, which I recommend everybody to read. ... See MoreSee Less
